Solar Horizon and Sunlight Exposure
For optimal performance, solar greenhouses should receive unrestricted sunlight from the south, east, and west, with a preference for south-facing exposure. A solar pathfinder can be a valuable tool for assessing sunlight patterns.
If your site receives excessive summer sun, consider a location with deciduous trees nearby to provide shade during warmer months while allowing sunlight in winter. A minimum of 4 to 5 hours of clear sun per day is recommended for effective greenhouse operation, though auxiliary heating in the winter may be necessary in areas with less sunlight

Water supply can be managed with polyethylene pipes, which can freeze and thaw without rupturing. Plants can also be watered directly from the above-ground pond. In the winter, the pond can be topped off once a month or so as needed since plants' water demands are typically lower. Hand-watering and solar-powered irrigation systems are alternative options to running a dedicated water line.
