Growing Spaces Blog Comment Policy

Purpose

We want the comments to be a practical extension of the blog: a place to ask good questions, compare approaches, and share what you have actually tried. We welcome debate and a wide range of opinions, as long as the discussion stays constructive and respectful.

What “on topic” means here

We will treat comments as on topic when they relate to greenhouse growing and the real-world decisions growers make, including:

  • climate and seasonality (heat, cold, wind, humidity, snow load)
  • greenhouse performance (ventilation, thermal mass, glazing, shading)
  • growing practices (soil, hydro, pests, watering, varieties, timing)
  • troubleshooting (what failed, what changed, what improved)
  • product questions that tie directly to the post’s topic

We love Growing Domes and want to fulfill the promise that they are the best growing systems available. But don’t be afraid to have friendly, respectful disagreements or to talk about alternatives.

A strong comment adds context

If you can, include details that help other readers apply your experience:

  • location or general climate (high desert, humid subtropical, coastal, etc.)
  • USDA zone or typical winter low and summer high
  • greenhouse type and size
  • what you tried, what you measured/observed, and what changed

Basic expectations

  1. Be respectful. Disagree with ideas, not people. Name-calling, personal attacks, and harassment are not welcome.
  2. Add value. Ask a clear question, share a relevant experience, or contribute a useful correction. Low-effort trolling or comments that exist mainly to provoke will be removed.
  3. Keep it tidy. Stay on the article’s topic and avoid duplicating the same comment across threads.
  4. Keep it lawful. Do not post copyrighted material you do not have rights to share.
  5. Keep it safe. Greenhouse projects can involve structural loads, electricity, heaters, and chemicals. Do not post instructions that encourage unsafe or illegal activity. When in doubt, recommend consulting local codes, manufacturers, or qualified professionals.

Promotion and self-interest

We want the comments to remain a learning space, not a marketplace.

  • If you mention a product, service, or business you are connected to, disclose that connection.
  • Repeated solicitation, outreach pitches, or “SEO-style” link building will be removed. This includes off-topic requests for guest posts or backlinks.
  • We may allow a single, directly relevant reference when it genuinely helps answer the question and is not framed as an advertisement.

Privacy and personal information

Do not post private or sensitive information (yours or anyone else’s), including phone numbers, emails, addresses, order details, or private correspondence. Comments are public and searchable.

How moderation works

We do our best to keep discussions useful, but we are not omnipresent. If a comment violates these guidelines, we may remove it, keep it pending for review, or limit a user’s ability to comment.

We may also close comments on a thread if it is consistently attracting off-topic or abusive behavior.

If you see a problem, please flag it

If you believe a comment crosses the line, do not escalate the thread. Flag it for moderator review.

Why comments sometimes appear “Pending”

Some comments are automatically held for review based on forum moderation settings (for example, pre-moderation, low reputation, links, or restricted-word matches).
